Eastern Iowa To Get Up To A Foot Of Snow From Major Winter Storm

It's going to snow big time in Iowa. You didn't know that? You do now. A major winter storm is moving its way into western Iowa as we speak and by Monday night, flurries will be falling across the state and the Quad Cities.

What we all thought was a social media page trying to put panic into Iowans is kind of turning out to be a pretty real and accurate prediction. I'm not saying we own anyone an apology, but maybe we don't get so hasty next time.

More than a foot of snow is expected to fall on communities across eastern Iowa during the first major storm of the season. In the Quad Cities, we could be seeing the brunt of the impact.

Winter Storm Warning Issued For Most Of Iowa

Ahead of this major snow storm, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for all but seven counties in Iowa. Here in the Quad Cities, the National Weather Service says that people should expect heavy snow expected total snow accumulations of 7 to 12 inches.

Winds could gust as high as 40 mph Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night leading to considerable blowing and drifting snow.

The Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. on Monday until 6 a.m. on Wednesday

How Much Snow Will We Get?

A lot. Expect a lot of snow to be on the ground before it's all said and done.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities says we could see around 6 inches or more area wide with some areas seeing more than 12 inches of snow locally.

For the Quad Cities metro, we could see anywhere from 7-11 inches of snow or even a foot, according to the National Weather Service of Des Moines. The Quad Cities area will also see the biggest impact of the storm and we should all avoid travel if possible.

When Will The Snow Start And End?

The white stuff will start falling from the sky this evening and will finally move out of the area by late Tuesday to really early Wednesday morning.

As you can see in big bold letters above, don't totally bank on these times.
