A Wellsburg man was injured in a Hardin County crash Sunday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 57-year-old Robert Nederhoff lost control of his motorcycle after being hit by a turkey as he rounded a curve. Authorities said Nederhoff was ejected from the motorcycle when it collided head-on with a vehicle that pulled onto the shoulder of the highway in an attempt to avoid an accident.

Nederhoff was airlifted to a Mason City hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries. The vehicle's driver, 29-year-old Rachel Smoldt of New Providence, was not injured.

Sunday's accident happened just before 5 PM on County Road S-62 near Leppley County Park, about one mile north of Union.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
