Weather-Related Crash Kills Two In Grundy County
Authorities are investigating a fatal accident on a snow-covered highway in Grundy County over the weekend.
According to sheriff's officials, two people were killed when their northbound car went out of control and slammed into an oncoming semi on Iowa Highway 14 Sunday afternoon. The car's driver was taken to the hospital in Grundy Center for treatment. His male passenger was transported to the hospital in Marshalltown.
Authorities confirmed both men later died of injuries suffered in the crash. They identified the victims as Justin Kime, 21, of Stewartville, Minn., and Tristan Marlow, 21, of Council Bluffs. Sheriff's officials said Kime was driving the car.
Kime and Marlowe were students at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Officials identified the semi's driver as Laurence Smith, 27, of St. Louis. He escaped injury.
The accident happened about eight miles northwest of Conrad, just after 12:30 PM.
