Two Waterloo teenagers were injured in a weekend crash that allegedly happened as the driver tried avoid a traffic stop in Hamilton County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, 18-year-old Justin Crawley drove away from a trooper at a high rate of speed. Authorities said Crawley lost control of the vehicle during a chase. The car entered a ditch and rolled several times, injuring both Crawley and his juvenile passenger.

Crawley was taken by ambulance to an Ames hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries. His passenger, described as a 16-year-old from Waterloo in the report, was air-lifted to a Des Moines hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The report said Crawley was wearing a seat beat. The passenger was not.

The crash happened around 10:45 PM Saturday near the intersection of County Roads R-77 and D-41, about nine miles northeast of Ellsworth.

The accident remains under investigation, the Iowa State Patrol said.
