Waterloo Police Thwart Attempted Armed Robbery
Four people are facing charges in connection with a failed robbery at a Waterloo business on Saturday (March 6, 2017).
According to Waterloo police, officers initiated a morning traffic stop near Falls and University Avenues and learned that a robbery was going to be committed at Check Into Cash. During the stop, authorities noticed a semi-automatic handgun inside the vehicle. They also discovered duct tape, face masks and rope.
Officers set up surveillance teams near the business at 2744 University Ave. Waterloo police said the vehicle arrived at the location and the four suspects inside were taken into custody on the following charges: conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, carrying weapons and going armed with intent.
Police identified the suspects as Brian Bennett, 20; Preston Brown, 20, Patrick Sumerall, Jr., 21, all of Waterloo; and Cody Carson, 19, of Evansdale.
