A Waterloo man was taken into custody over the weekend for allegedly firing shots near children in a residential neighborhood.

Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Conger Street Friday around 10:30 PM to investigate a report of shots fired near some homes. According to authorities, the probe led to a search warrant being served at 435 Conger St.

Officials said officers discovered weapons, shell casings and evidence of fireworks violations during the search. They also found a recording of a female telling a man not to fire the weapon because children were nearby, police said.

Following the investigation, authorities arrested 37-year-old Marquise Johnson. He was charged child endangerment, felon in possession of a firearm, reckless use of a firearm and fireworks violations.
