For many high school students, memories of being in a school play or performing in the swing show last forever. For me, my memories consist of realizing I couldn't sing or dance or have any special talents, so I was nominated to be "stage director". I'm sure my steady direction made for broadway-esque performances from all involved, but I can't really remember that long ago!

Anyway, the talented students at Waterloo East High School will have a chance to "show their stuff", during Swing Show 2021 Tonight’s the Night on Thursday and Friday, May 13 and 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Elizabeth A. Green auditorium.

Performers have had an extra two months to practice, as the show is usually held in early March. However, like many events, the date was pushed back a few months due to the pandemic. Show Director Joelle Smith said (having the show in mid-May) "kind of made it difficult to schedule everything with spring sports, prom, and graduation." Smith also thinks the date change and Covid-19 concerns in general has hurt our availability of student acts.

Nonetheless, she is still excited to see some great individual talent taking the stage this year. The popular dance team will be back this year. Along with a jazz combo improvising a couple of tunes, plus other acts. But here's the "inside scoop" you can only get right here, according to Smith, some of the teachers are preparing an epic performance bringing back some classics and adding an element of surprise to the show. If you want to find out what it is, you'll just have see for yourself and go to the show.

Tickets are only $6 and go on sale beginning Monday, May 3 and are available at the East High School business office or at the door. Due to Covid-19, this show will be occupied at limited capacity and face masks will be required. The show will not have an intermission this year.

Who's hungry? - The Best Burritos In The Cedar Valley - Photos/List

This radio station took a (very) informal poll on our Facebook page and here's a list of the most popular places in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area to wrap your hands around a giant delicious burrito. You'll notice that they're listed in alphabetical order because it's hard to say that one is better than the other. Except for those cheap frozen burritos you can find in your grocer's freezer, those are truly disgusting. Especially, when you compare them to these local creations made with fresh ingredients and tender loving care. There's a surprising amount of fantastic Mexican restaurants in the area, let's check them out.
