Two Vehicles Stolen, Chased Down Near UNI Campus in Cedar Falls
Two Cedar Falls residents had their vehicles stolen this morning, Tuesday, March 29.
Just past 7 AM, Black Hawk County Dispatch received a call from a person living in the 4600 block of Gloria Street saying that their white Toyota SUV had been stolen out of their garage.
Coincidentally, law enforcement seeking out the aforementioned SUV intercepted the automobile along with a second car -- a black Dodge Charger -- that was reported stolen yesterday, March 28, from the Neola Street area in Cedar Falls.
KWWL reports the following:
"The white Toyota evaded officers traveling southbound on Highway 58 near the intersection with Greenhill Road where it struck another vehicle and crashed. The vehicle was disabled and the male driver was taken into custody at 7:16 AM."
In regards to the black Dodge, the story adds it "eluded officers in the general residential area near the University of Northern Iowa. The vehicle was ditched in the 1500 block of Columbia Drive and the driver fled on foot. Numerous officers and investigators searched the area."
UNI police apprehended the driver of the Dodge vehicle "near the intersection of West 31st. Street and Hudson Road at 7:59 AM."
Both suspects are in custody, and both of the vehicles have been recovered. No injuries occurred in either pursuit.
Though this is an ongoing investigation, multiple charges will be filed including but not limited to burglary, theft, eluding police, and numerous traffic violations.
Cedar Falls police recently chased down a suspect who leaped from a stolen vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.
