An accident in rural Black Hawk County sent three people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 9, 2019).

The three-vehicle crash occurred around 3:30 PM at the intersection of Iowa Highway 281 (N. Canfield Road) and Barclay Road, about four miles south of Dunkerton. Authorities said two women and a child were transported to a Waterloo hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

According to sheriff's officials, the accident happened on Iowa 281 when a northbound cadillac rear-ended an SUV that was waiting to make a turn onto Barclay Road. The SUV then collided with an oncoming car, which was traveling south on the highway. All three vehicles were disabled at the scene.

Authorities said the cadillac's driver, a 28-year-old man, was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance.

Sheriff's officials did not release the names of those involved in the collision.
