Three Bucks Players Chosen For Northwoods League All-Star Game
Three players from the Great Plains East Subdivision first-half champion Waterloo Bucks have been selected for the 2021 Northwoods League All-Star Game.
First baseman Garrett McGowan, outfielder Max Jung-Goldberg and pitcher Ryan Duffy will be representing the team when the NWL's 26th mid-summer classic is played later this month.
McGowan, a junior from Pittsburg State University in Kansas, is tied for the league lead with 33 runs batted in (RBI) and his .350 batting average is eighth-best among all players in the 22-team circuit who have a minimum of 2.7 plate appearance per game. The Blue Springs, Mo., native leads the Bucks in several offensive categories: hits (49), doubles (11), home runs (3) and runs scored (33).
Jung-Goldberg has a .299 batting average with 32 hits and a team-best three home runs. His 28 RBI is the seventh-most in the NWL to date. The Palo Alto, Calif., native is a sophomore at the University of San Diego.
Duffy has a 0.33 earned run average, which is currently the fifth-best ERA in the NWL. The University of Minnesota senior has a 2-1 record with 26 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched. Duffy is a native of South St. Paul, Minn.
Waterloo's three All-Star selections helped lead the Bucks to a 23-11 first-half record under the guidance of first-year field manager Ryan Gaynor. Waterloo secured a spot in the post-season NWL playoffs by winning the Great Plains East half-season title.
Rosters for the 2021 NWL All-Star Game were announced on Friday. Ballots were cast by the field staff and media contacts of each of the Northwoods League's 22 teams.
The NWL All-Star game will be played Tuesday, July 20 at ISG Field (formerly Franklin Rogers Park) in Mankato, Minn., starting at 7:05 PM.
