The Cedar Rapids School District Was Hit By A Cyberattack
The Cedar Rapids Community School District discovered over the holiday weekend that they had been the target of a cyberattack.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the discovery of the attack has prompted the school district to suspend all summer activities until July 11th. The announcement from the district did not describe the nature of the attack or say which systems might have been targeted. The district stated in their announcement that the closure was needed to restore systems quickly.
To restore all sytems as quickly and securely as possible, we are implementing a district closure, suspending the district's summer activites for the remainder of the holiday week including district field trips.
The Gazette reports that those summer field trips help students explore new interests that focus on math, reading, and writing. All high school baseball and softball games scheduled for this week will go on as planned.
According to the Gazette, the school district went on to say that it has consulted cyber security experts to help determine the cause of the weekend attack and to ensure that it never happens again.
