
SUNDAY: Waterloo’s 42* Temperature Swing Ties Record
On Sunday, June 13, Waterloo had a low temperature of 54* just before sunrise at 5:31. Around 12 hours later, the high temperature peaked at 96* -- a temperature swing of 42*.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, that temperature spread tied a record:
The 42 degree spread between Waterloo's high temperature of 96 and a low temperature of 54 yesterday 6/13 is tied with 6/01/2017 as the greatest daily temperature spread for that location in June.
Sunday, June 13, also tied the record for the greatest 12-hour temperature spread for the summer months of June, July, and August. Oddly enough, four of the top 10 dates all occurred on June 13th and eight of the top 10 occurred in June.
The all-time record for the greatest 12-hour temperature swing in Waterloo is 49* (dating back to 1949). At 3:54 AM on May 16, 1997, it was 31* and 12 hours later it reached a high of 81*.
The coldest it has ever been on June 13 in Waterloo was a chilly 40* in 1969. The all-time high on June 13th in Waterloo is 100* in 1987.
