UPDATE: Shooter, Victim Identified In Waterloo Murder-Suicide
Waterloo police have released more details on an apparent murder-suicide that happened over the weekend.
According to authorities, 43-year-old Tanniaah Spates was killed by 50-year-old Tony Flowers at her apartment late Saturday. Police said witnesses reported that Flowers showed up at the Pineview Apartment Homes, 3870 Pineview Place, around 11 PM and fatally shot Spates. She was pronounced dead by Waterloo Fire Rescue Paramedics.
Spates and Flowers have several children together and Spates had a protective order against Flowers for a recent domestic assault charge, police said.
According to a press release, police had received information that Flowers was planning to end his life. After shooting Spates, he fled the area in his vehicle.
Several hours later, officers found Flowers' vehicle parked in an alley behind the 2200 block East 4th Street. Police said officers were setting up perimeter when they heard a muffled gunshot. Authorities approached the vehicle and found Flowers sitting in the driver’s seat with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Waterloo Fire Rescue Paramedics arrived and pronounced Flowers dead at the scene.
Autopsies are pending for both Flowers and Spates.
Police said they are not looking for any more suspects in the case.
