Run-off elections for mayor and a city council representative were held in two of eastern Iowa's largest cities on Tuesday.

In Cedar Falls, incumbent Rob Green narrowly defeated challenger Dave Sires in the mayor's race. Unofficial results show Green was supported by 51 percent of the voters who cast ballots. He beat Sires by a 97-vote margin (3,534 to 3,437).

Voters in Cedar Rapids chose a former television news anchor/reporter to lead the city for the next two years. Tiffany O'Donnell beat Amara Andrews by a wide margin. Unofficial totals show O'Donnell got 68 percent of the votes cast (13,479 to 6,358) in the run-off election.

O'Donnell was also the top vote-getter in the Nov. 2 municipal election, but didn't receive the majority of the votes. Andrews faced O'Donnell in the Tuesday's run-off election following a 40-vote win over incumbent mayor Brad Hart, who chose not to challenge the result.

In her effort to win the mayor's race in Cedar Rapids, O'Donnell focused on the city's recovery from the 2020 derecho and the massive flooding in 2008. She will be sworn in as mayor in January.

Cedar Falls City Council Race

One other contest left undecided Nov. 2 was a city council race in Cedar Falls. On Tuesday, voters in Ward 3 re-elected Daryl Kruse to be their representative.

Fifty-three percent of the voters favored Kruse in the run-off election. Unofficial results show the incumbent Kruse defeated challenger Carole Yates by a 98-vote margin (820-722).
