California Company Purchasing 24 Iowa Restaurants
A California company has purchased Pizza Hut restaurants in 24 different Iowa towns including Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, Cedar Rapids and Charles City. Radio Iowa reports the San Francisco based Flynn Restaurant Group has acquired 937 Pizza Hut and 194 Wendy’s locations throughout the United States. They are buying these locations from the Kansas City-based NPC International, which filed for bankruptcy in July 2020.
The company also owns many other restaurants says it is the largest franchise operator in America including many Applebee's, Taco Bell and Arby's locations nationwide. The sale of the over 1,000 restaurants will help the company earn $3.5 billion in annual sales from what will be a total of 2,355 locations, according to Restaurant Business Online.
In late 2020, NPC International announced the shutdown several area Pizza Hut locations. The closed restaurants were located in Boone, Dubuque (1 of 2), Dyersville, Eldridge, Le Claire, Maquoketa, Newton, Tipton and Urbandale. There's no plans to reopen any of these locations.
