Pickup Accident Kills Numerous Calves in Winneshiek County
A farmer sustained a considerable loss, when a vehicle struck and killed several of his animals that were on the road.
This happened last Friday (Aug. 28) at about 5:30am, on Winneshiek County Road W-14, in Calmar Township.
A southbound 2004 Ford F-150 pickup driven by 63 year old Joseph Needham of Ridgeway, struck and killed 8 Holstein calves that were on the roadway.
The owner of the calves was in the process of rounding them up when they were struck. He also attempted to warn the oncoming driver by flashing his lights on his 4 wheeler, but was not successful.
Total damages were estimated at $14,500. No one was injured, and no ambulance was needed.
