The University of Northern Iowa announced Thursday that they will kick off the 2020 football season against Iowa at Kinnick Stadium.

The Panthers and Hawkeyes will open the season Saturday, September 5th, 2020, in Iowa City. The 2020 matchup will be the 19th all-time clash between the two programs, with Northern Iowa being the visitor in 18 of those games.

Despite recent rules changes limiting Big Ten schools from scheduling non-FBS teams, Iowa has five conference road games in 2020, so the Hawkeyes were allowed to schedule an FCS opponent.

The two sides will also play in Iowa City next season on September 15th.

UNI hasn't played Iowa since 2014, a game in which the Panthers narrowly lost, 31-23. The Hawkeyes have won 16 consecutive games in the series overall. In fact, UNI last defeated Iowa back in 1898!
