UPDATE: As of Mon. August 31, NorthCrest Specialty Care positive cases increased by 4 over the weekend up to 44 reported. Meanwhile, at Pinnacle Specialty Care cases doubled from 5 to 10. In Marshalltown, there were no change in the numbers since Friday.

As the battle against the Coronavirus pandemic continues, with 1,681 additional cases across Iowa reported in the last 24 hours (as of Fri. 8/28). Two long-term facilities in the Cedar Valley and in Marshalltown are experiencing outbreaks.

The Iowa Department of Public Health’s care facility outbreak list reports 36 current outbreaks across the state. An outbreak is defined as three or more cases among residents.

In Black Hawk county, NorthCrest Specialty Care, located on Heath Street in the northern part of Waterloo is showing a whopping 40 reported positive cases. While, Pinnacle Specialty Care, just off Prairie Parkway in Cedar Falls is reporting 5 residents with COVID-19. As of today (Thurs. 8/27) none have recovered.

In the meantime in Marshall County, Grandview Heights Rehab & Healthcare in Marshalltown reports 81 positive cases with a total of 71 recovered. The Iowa Veterans homes also shows 14 positive cases with 10 totally recovered. The website does not show possible deaths from these specific outbreaks, however it does show among the current 36 outbreaks across the state, 1,118 individual positive cases, with 670 total recoveries and 582 deaths
