The Oelwein City Council has decided to keep city hall at it's current location, instead of following through with a plan to move the offices to an empty building in downtown Oelwein.
A proposal had been submitted to move the city hall, two blocks to the east, to 1 West Charles, the former site of the Fidelity Bank.

The building is now owned by local businessman Doug Bryan, who had offered to lease the building to the city.

Numerous local citizens have offered their opinions on the topic, both for and against.

After several months of studying the cost ramifications of leasing a new location, or doing extensive repairs to the current city hall, the council has voted unanimously to stay put.
