Waterloo West High School is getting a new wrestling coach, pending Board of Education approval.

School administrators are recommending Kevin Emily for the job. The Board is expected to approve Emily's hiring at its next meating.

“I am excited to have Coach Emily take over our wrestling program," West Athletic Director Dr. Anthony Pappas said. "He has many years of head coaching experience and he is a Waterloo native. His programs have produced many successful wrestlers and his valuable experiences at the club, high school and collegiate levels make him an excellent fit for West High School.”

Emily attended the now-closed Waterloo Central High School, where he was a state wrestling tournament qualifier. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1995.

Emily has been the head wrestling coach at Red Bank High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and White Knoll High School in Lexington, South Carolina. Last season, he was in charge of the wrestling program at North Charleston High School in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Emily is currently a special needs teacher at West High School.

Former Loras College assistant Brett Wheelan has coached West the past four seasons. He resigned in May after guiding the Wahawks to a 10th-place finish at the 2014 state tournament.
