Have you ever heard of Korean corn dogs?

Back in December, a new Iowa restaurant called Naughtea officially opened its doors at 1810 SW White Birch Circle in Ankeny. As the name suggests, the eatery specializes in a variety of teas, including boba tea, but they also serve something called Korean corn dogs.

Korean corn dogs are a popular Korean Street food that are a bit different than your typical American corndog. First of all, the corn dogs don't have to have hot dogs or sausages in them. They can also be filled with mozzarella cheese, rice cakes, or seafood. Second, the batter of Korean corn dogs is typically made rice flour, which is crispier than the cornmeal batter that American corn dogs are made with. And then there's the coating! According to the website Ling, "the Korean corn dog is coated with panko bread crumbs, making it crunchier. Korean corn dogs can also be coated with cornflakes or ramen. After being deep-fried to a golden brown color, it is coated with sugar."

At Naughtea, you can have your Korean corn dog filled with a hot dog, mozzarella cheese, or a cheese and hot dog combo. Your flavor options are Classic, Potato Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Hot Cheetos, and Ube Cheese. According to Real Simple, ube is "a purple yam originally from the Philippines" that has a "slightly nutty, vanilla taste and is popularly used in desserts." Naughtea also has a variety of add-ons for their Korean corn dogs, including cheese, ketchup, sriracha, sriracha ketchup, and sriracha mayo.

In addition to the corndogs, Naughtea also has a large variety of tea. The Des Moines Register says there are milk teas, cheese teas, fruit teas, and brown sugar teas. The article reads:

"Customers can add cheese foam, boba, mango jelly and other toppings that will make any caffeine junky forget Starbucks."

So far, Naughtea has amazing reviews! The restaurant currently has 5-stars on Facebook and lots of satisfied customers. Facebook user Sarah Jeter wrote:

"So glad I got to try this place! I tested every corn dog and the strawberry cheese drink. Everything was super tasty, the staff was super nice! I think my faves are the ube cheese and the hot cheeto, but I also really liked the sweet potato. I will definitely be back!"

If you want to make the trip to Ankeny to try Naughtea, the restaurant is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Because of all the hype around the new business, they sometimes sell out of items early in the day, so be sure to follow them on social media for updates HERE.
