New Hampton Man Jailed After Gas Station Incident

A New Hampton man was arrested on numerous charges Tuesday following an incident at a northeast Iowa gas station.

Fayette County sheriff's officials received a report of a domestic assault and car theft at Guppy's Gas Station in Elgin around 2:30 PM Tuesday. After conducting several interviews, deputies took 34-year-old Jaylani Whiteside into custody.

Authorities charged Whiteside with the following offenses: second-degree robbery, domestic assault causing injury, two counts of possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended and interference with official acts.

Whiteside was taken to the Fayette County Jail to await his initial court appearance.
