Winneshiek County authorities have been kept busy this past week, rescuing more people who were paddling down the Upper Iowa River.


On Tuesday around 3:45 PM, sheriff's deputies and Decorah Fire Rescue personnel were called out to assist two women who capsized their kayak. The incident happened near the bridge at Pole Line and Bluffton Roads, on the northwest edge of Decorah. The two were able to get out of the river, without any injuries.

About a week, on July 12 around 8 PM, rescue crews responded to a report of three females who became stranded, while tubing, on the Upper Iowa River near Freeport. The three were able to get out of the river without any injuries. The area is just east of Decorah. Winneshiek County sheriff officials were assisted by Decorah police.
