The average person has a 1 in 292, 201,338 chance of winning the lottery in their lifetime.

We've all had that dream of what we would do with the money if we did end up winning. Maybe you'd redo your home or go on a dream vacation.

One of the exciting things about playing the lottery is that you can win all sorts of prizes. Big prizes and small prizes!

One Cedar Falls man was close to winning a lifechanging amount of money.

Meet Michael Smith

Michael Smith is a Cedar Falls resident who was just going about his day when he stopped by Hy-Vee on 6301 University Avenue earlier this week.

The ticket he picked out ended up being the winning won in a national lottery drawing. Smith ended up winning $20,000 thanks to his lucky ticket!

Not too shabby, right?

But he was actually incredibly close to winning an even bigger prize!

How Much Money Did He Almost Win?

When Smith played the lottery on Monday, he matched up all five of the white balls. He was just one number away from landing a cut of the $3.73 million jackpot.

Dang! So close!

He still got SOMETHING out of the whole ordeal! Anyone who complains about winning $20,000 is not someone I'd like to associate with.
