A Marshalltown boy has died of injuries he suffered after being struck by a vehicle while walking home from school.

Police say officers and paramedics were dispatched to the accident site around 3:30 PM Wednesday. According to witness statements given to police, the boy was crossing West Main Street when he was struck by a vehicle that was making a turn onto South 13th Street. The intersection is near Franklin Elementary School, where the 8-year-old was a student.

According to police, the child was taken to the Marshalltown hospital for treatment. Maxon was eventually flown to a medical center in Des Moines, where he later died.
