A man who was handcuffed behind his back led Kansas State Troopers on a 100mph chase in a stolen patrol car on Easter weekend.

The 23-year-old -- who is from Florida –was being transported to a detention facility around noon on Saturday after he had been arrested following a pursuit that involved a stolen vehicle where he also hit speeds over 100 MPH.

The trooper then witnessed a motorcycle crash on the highway and stopped to help.

While the trooper was assisting with the motorcycle crash, the handcuffed prisoner got behind the wheel of the patrol car and took off, reaching speeds of 100 MPH.

After 30 minutes, the patrol car ran out of gas and the prisoner took off on foot – still handcuffed – but was quickly caught.

He was arrested and taken to jail without further incident.

No one was injured during the incident and there was no damage to the patrol car.

Trooper Tod Hileman, a spokesman for the KHP, told ABC News that they didn't ask the man how he operated the vehicle while being handcuffed, but added; “I can only assume he was using his knees.”

Hileman also noted that the suspect was sitting in the front seat of the car because the patrol vehicle was not equipped with a rear-seat cage.
