Man Dies In Downtown Waterloo Shooting
Waterloo police are investigating another fatal shooting, the city’s third in a span of eight days.
The latest incident happened early Sunday morning, just after midnight. Police said officers were responding to a report of disorderly conduct near West Fourth and Jefferson Streets, a downtown area where several bars are located. As officers arrived, they heard numerous shots and saw several people running from the area.
According to police, officers found a male lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers tried lifesaving measures on the victim before the ambulance arrived. The victim was taken to a Waterloo hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities did not immediately identify the victim.
Officials are asking for the public’s help in solving the crime. They want witnesses to come forward and contact Waterloo police at 319-291-4340.
Waterloo police investigated two deadly shootings in the city last weekend -- a homicide and a murder-suicide, both of which happened on May 15. Authorities confirmed that 23-year-old Dayton Matlock was killed and two women were injured in an early morning shooting in the 1400 block of Grant Avenue. Later that night, authorities determined that 43-year-old Tanniaah Spates was fatally shot by 50-year-old Tony Flowers in her apartment. Police said Flowers later shot and killed himself.
