‘Hey Dad, Wanna Have a Catch?” Yep. That’s the worst part of Field of Dreams in my opinion. Who says that? No one. I’m willing to bet 99.9% of anyone who ever threw a baseball to their father asked, ‘Hey Dad, Do you wanna PLAY catch?”

That line in the movie has always bothered me. It’s one of my favorite films of all time, but I always get a bit irked when Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) tearfully asks his dad (Dwier Brown) to “Have a Catch.” Ugh.

My co-worker (who shall remain nameless to protect her anonymity) was kind enough to wait in line at the University Avenue Hy-Vee in Cedar Falls on Tuesday to have actor Dwier Brown sign a box of Hy-Vee Corn Flakes for me. I assumed that he would just write his name in sharpie, but I got more than that – and my co-worker KNEW that I despised that line in the movie. Touché.

But I can’t be too upset. Not only did ‘John Kinsella’ sign a piece of cardboard for me, but I also get to partake in a delicious breakfast tomorrow morning before the Field of Dreams game between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees. I may even enjoy a bowl laden with 1% milk and honey DURING the game as well.

The ceremonial first pitch has been long rumored to be thrown by none other than Kevin Costner, the star of the 1989 movie, you know, the ‘damn fool’ who plowed under his cornfield. I’m hoping that if he does indeed toss out the first pitch, that he throws it to his ‘dad’, actor Dwier Brown. But if he utters the phrase, ‘Hey Dad, wanna have a catch?” I’m gonna throw a box of cereal at my TV.
