An 18-year-old from rural Janesville has been arrested on charges connected to a car theft and chase.

Bremer County sheriff's officials took Dakota Moeller into custody early Sunday after he crashed the stolen vehicle while fleeing from authorities.

The incident started just before 5 AM while a deputy was investigating a suspicious vehicle at Janesville Consolidated School. Sheriff's officials said Moeller led the deputy on a chase into Black Hawk County. The pursuit ended when Moeller lost control of the vehicle and crashed in a ditch along N. Butler Road, south of Finchford.

According to sheriff's officials, the vehicle Moeller was driving had been stolen from a Janesville home earlier Sunday morning.

Moeller was arrested on charges of second-degree felony theft, eluding police and carrying weapons on school grounds. The incident remains under investigation and additional charges are likely, sheriff's officials said.
