Four-star high school basketball recruit Xavier Foster of Oskaloosa, Iowa made his decision between his final two schools, Iowa and Iowa State, on Monday morning.  Foster made a verbal commitment to Iowa State to play for head coach Steve Prohm.

The 7'0" center who averaged over 14 points, almost 12 rebounds, and more than six blocks per game during his junior year, has been highly sought after by both schools.

No one had wanted Foster longer than Fran McCaffery and the Iowa Hawkeyes, who were the first to offer Foster a scholarship before he played his first high school game. Iowa State's offer came within just a few weeks of the one extended by Iowa.

So why Iowa State? Xavier told 247 Sports, "Because I felt that they had some guys commit that I had played with and I know I can better myself playing with every day." Foster's mom also mentioned the future when talking about Xavier's decision, which apparently didn't happen until Sunday afternoon. Alex Halsted tweeted that she said,

I don't think he knew one way or another, it was kind of a gut feeling. He has aspirations to go to the NBA, we saw Iowa State had more recent success with that.

Iowa State now has four verbal commitments for the 2020 class, currently ranked 14th in the nation. Foster, Dudley Blackwell, Jaden Walker, and Darlinstone Dubar are all heading for Ames next season.
