You have to imagine what life was like here in the U.S. back in the 1930s and early 1940s. War was looming, a great depression was ending, and this FDR guy was the President of the United States.

As far as entertainment goes, this is before we had televisions in our homes. Radio was in its golden age, but no one had one in their car if they even had a car. What did we do for fun? We went to the movies.

According to a new study from the insurance website Coventry Direct, Iowa has a favorite classic movie. A movie that was released in the very late 1930s, and is still very much ingrained in our lexicon today.

The study says our favorite classic movie is the Wizard of Oz.

Seems like a real, "duh" answer, right? But isn't it a little weird that our favorite movie takes place in Kansas? Well, until Dorothy gets to Oz, that is. Maybe it's the whole "farm girl goes on an adventure" that makes the movie such a classic here in the Hawkeye State.

The study used Google searches from early 2021 through early 2022 to determine what our favorite classic movie is. Most midwestern states picked Wizard of Oz perhaps because it's centered in the midwest.

Other classic films that got love in the survey include Gone With The Wind, Casablanca, Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and Citizen Kane.

I guess it's too early for Field of Dreams to be dubbed an all-time "classic". Once it is, expect that to be our favorite. Especially when you consider the film is far more relevant today than it was in 1989 when it was released.
