Less than 24 hours after Gov. Kim Reynolds announced new mitigation efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Iowa, new data showed more than 2,000 people have died from the virus in the state.

Iowa Department of Public health officials reported 33 additional deaths Tuesday, along with 3,563 new confirmed cases. The state's coronavirus-tracking website showed 2,024 Iowans have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March. The total number of positive cases increased to 190,583.

The new numbers were tabulated between 10 AM Monday and 10 AM Tuesday.

Iowa's positivity rate during the 24-hour period was at 41-percent. The figures showed the state with 81,000 active cases of the coronavirus.

The number of virus-related hospitalizations set another record, with 1,510 patients being treated. There were 215 people admitted for COVID-19 treatment in the past 24 hours.

Local health officials in Black Hawk County reported 166 new positive cases and two additional deaths on Tuesday. The latest figures showed the county with 10,046 total cases and 118 deaths.
