Iowans Share Their Funniest Misheard Song Lyrics Stories
It happens to the best of us!
A couple of weeks ago, I got a rude awakening when I found out that I've been singing a song the wrong way for YEARS. I've heard the song "Night Shift" by Jon Pardi literally hundreds of times since it came out in 2016, but it wasn't until I heard a coworker singing along with it that I realized I had the wrong lyrics. The very first line of the song is "I've had a 'wreck me' week," but I've always heard it as "I've had a RED MEAT week." No, it doesn't make sense, but I guess I've just never questioned it!
This is definitely not the first time I've screwed up the lyrics of a popular song. In fact, it's been happening to me since I was just a kid! In the 90s, I thought the lyrics to TLC's song "Waterfalls" were "go, go Jason Waterfalls," instead of "don't go chasing waterfalls." And you know the song "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia? I thought the chorus was singing "Todd." Thankfully I figured out the correct lyrics before I hit adulthood...
