The nominations for the 94th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, and an Iowa native heard his name called out once again.

KGAN reports that Don Hall, a native of Glenwood, Iowa, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Hall co-directed the hit movie 'Raya and The Last Dragon'. The film was released last April and has gotten rave reviews from both critics and moviegoers. The film currently has a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The production of the movie was challenging as much of it occurred during the pandemic. For Iowa Magazine reports that Hall and his team were given the same technology to work with from home as they had at the offices at Disney. 90% of the film's production, including animation and cinematography, was done remotely. Hall called the film some of the best work of his career.

Hall's career has seen Oscar gold before. He won an Academy Award in 2015 for his direction of the Disney film 'Big Hero 6'. Hall told For Iowa Magazine that he is actually going to get to revisit that character as he is working on a short series featuring Baymax for Disney+. That show is expected to debut later this year.

The other nominees for Best Animated Feature are;

  • Encanto
  • Flee
  • Luca
  • The Mitchells vs. The Machines

The 94th Academy Awards will be held on March 27th and will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. I know who I'll be rooting for that night in at least one category!
