A northeast Iowa man faces several charges after leading authorities on a high speed chase on his motorcycle.

At about 1:30 AM Friday (May 22), Buchanan County deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by 46 year old Matthew Nichols of Independence, that was travelling on 265th Street, south of Independence.

Nichols attempted to elude authorities, by driving at a high rate of speed, however he was stopped near 220th Street and Henley Avenue, just west of Independence.

Nichols was arrested and charged with Driving While License Barred, Eluding Law Enforcement, Driving While License Suspended, Failure to Have SR22 Insurance as Required, a Speed Violation, No Proof of Insurance, Operation of Non-Registered Vehicle and Failure to Maintain Control.
