Illinois Burger Joint Among America’s Best Diners, Drive Ins & Dives
Getting your restaurant featured on a popular TV show has got to be great for business.
On the other hand, you might not be ready for the influx of people walking through your doors.
That could lead to the quality of food and service going down and the next thing you know, boom, you're out of business.
Not gonna lie, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, the popular TV show hosted by Guy Fieri has probably hurt a few businesses over the years because they couldn't hack it after their induction into Flavortown, but then again there are a few places that thrive.
You could spend weeks (and months) hitting up every place featured on that show or you could just go to one, the very best restaurant that was once on Triple D.
So Mashed did some of the legwork for you and listed The Best Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Restaurant In Every State and the choice for Illinois is an absolute no-brainer.
To me, not quite a dive but it's an excellent choice nonetheless. You also might want to leave Grandma at home because it gets loud at Kuma's Corner.
If Au Cheval didn't exist, Kuma's Corner would be the go-to burger joint for the entire state of Illinois.
The heavy metal-themed burger joint opened its doors in 2005, and since then, it has exploded in popularity for its hardcore sandwich creations. It's infamous Ghost Burger (topped with braised goat shoulder, ghost pepper aioli, aged white cheddar, red wine reduction, and a Communion wafer... you read that right) caused all kinds of uproar, enraging the Catholic Church.
While the Ghost Burger isn't a permanent fix on the Kuma's menu they have other offerings like the Iron Maiden, the Plague Bringer, and the Slayer.
All three are excellent (and a little overpriced) but if you can afford it, you need to try Kuma's at least once.
I also found this on the bathroom wall at the Schaumburg Kuma's location:
Kuma's has three Chicagoland locations:
- 2900 West Belmont Avenue in Chicago
- 852 West Fulton Market in Chicago
- 1570 East Golf Road in Schaumburg
