How Iowans Can Find Out If Your Absentee Ballot Was Counted [LINK]
The countdown to election day has begun to Tuesday, November 3rd, Election Day. Due to concerns about spreading the coronavirus, 2020 looks like it will be a record-setting year for early and absentee voting.
More than 60 million Americans have already cast their ballots, among them, are over 608,000 Iowans. It has been predicted that the number of Iowans to vote early in this election could exceed 750,000.
There are reports that some county auditors are getting many reports from voters who have returned their absentee ballots, but then get a mailer telling them their absentee ballot has NOT been returned. According to Black Hawk County Auditor Grant Veeder, "Almost invariably, we find that their ballot HAS been returned."
It's hard to know the intentions of these mailers. If you receive one in the mail, your best bet is to throw it in the trash. Then if you want "peace of mind" that your vote counted, you can track your absentee ballot on the Iowa Secretary of State's website. It's easy, all you have to do is enter your first name, last name and date of birth. You can also call your local county auditor's office to verify.
If you still plan on voting in person on election day, you can look over a sample ballot by clicking here, just enter your address/city/email address, and follow the prompts. To find your precinct/polling place click here. And remember, YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
