One of Waterloo's two public swimming pools is opening this weekend, while the other will remained closed.

City officials said the Gates Park pool will open for the season at 11 AM on Saturday. Opening of the Byrnes Park pool has been postponed, due to an underground pipe break.

In order to accommodate the public, city officials are expanding operation hours at Gates for the first two weeks of the swim season. The modified Gates pool schedule is as follows:

June 1-2:
11 AM - 5 PM - Open Swim

June 3-7:
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM - Night Swim

June 8-9:
11 AM - 5 PM - Open Swim

June 10-14:
11 AM - 4:30 PM - Open Swim
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM - Night Swim

According to city officials, swim lessons have been relocated to Gates Pool for the June 3-14 session.

Season passes will be honored at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex from June 10-14, from 1 -3 PM for open swim. Pass holders should enter through the west entrance with their passes.

“We understand the disappointment of swimmers this delay may cause. We hope the accommodations we are making at Gates and SportsPlex will help,” said Mark Gallagher, Waterloo Leisure Services Recreation Services Manager. “Our city crews and private contractors are working diligently to repair the pool as quickly as possible.”
