G-R School Board Rejects Plan To Dissolve District
A plan to dissolve the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District is a dead issue for now following recent action taken by the local Board of Education.
In a meeting last week, the seven-member Gladbrook-Reinbeck school board voted unanimously to void a petition that would have forced a public vote on the matter. In rejecting the petition, the board determined the document had some signatures that were dated before the petition was written.
On a 7-0 vote, the board ruled the petition invalid. The action means there will be no public vote to potentially dissolve the district.
The petition drive started about a year ago following a divisive budget-cutting process that resulted in the closure of the elementary school in Gladbrook.
Had the district -- formed in 1998 -- been dissolved, Gladbrook-Reinbeck students would have been absorbed by several surrounding districts.
Supporters could push for dissolution of the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District again, but they have to restart the entire process from the beginning.
