Four Injured In Separate Eastern Iowa Weekend Accidents

Authorities are investigating an accident involving a car and train that injured two people in Black Hawk County over the weekend.

Sheriff's officials said in a news release that the car's driver and a passenger were both transported to a Waterloo hospital following the crash. Authorities described the passenger's injuries as life-threatening. The driver's injuries were less severe and not believed to be life-threatening.

Neither of the victims were identified in the press release. They were the only occupants of the vehicle,

The accident happened Saturday just after 2:30 PM. The collision occurred in the 1000 block of S. Canfield Road (County Road V-51) about 10 miles east of Raymond.

Two People Injured In Linn County Crash

An Urbana woman was one of two people injured when a motorcycle and sport utility vehicle collided at a Linn County intersection on Saturday.

According to sheriff's officials, Amy Matthiesen and Jeremy Hynek of Fairfax were transported to area hospitals to be treated for undisclosed injuries. Authorities said Mathiesen and Hynek were both on the motorcycle and neither were wearing a helmet.

Authorities said the motorcycle -- operated by Hynek -- was northbound on U.S. Highway 151 (Williams Blvd.) when it was struck by the SUV, driven by Mitchell St. Andrews of Palo. The crash happened Saturday around 9:45 AM at the intersection with 80th Street SW in Fairfax.

Sheriff's officials cited St. Andrews for failure to stop and yield at a signed intersection.
