Former UNI Basketball Star Traded in NBA G-League
Isaiah Brown is one of the best defenders in recent memory for Panther basketball fans.
The 6'7, 180-pound forward was a part of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) All-Defensive Team in 2019 and 2020, and he finished his career in Cedar Falls by winning the MVC Defensive Player of the year in 2020.
Along with earning the award for being the premiere defender in the conference, Brown contributed 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the regular-season MVC champions. He also started all 31 games under long-time UNI men's basketball head coach, Ben Jacobson.
To put it as the kids do, Brown was a 'certified bucket' as a Panther, along with easily being one of the top athletes in the conference:
Following graduation, Brown determined he would continue his basketball career and entered the 2020 NBA Draft.
After going undrafted, he would ultimately be picked up late in the 2020-2021 season by the Santa Cruz Warriors -- the NBA G-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors. He played in four games over the remainder of the season, posting 4.0 points and 1.8 rebounds over that stretch.
As of this week, the Texas Legends -- the G-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks -- acquired the returning player rights to Brown in a trade with Santa Cruz. In return, Texas sent their 2022-23 NBA G League Draft 2nd round pick.
The Flower Mound, Texas native shared the news on Twitter:
The Legends will tip off the 2021-22 season with a double-header on the road against the Lakeland Magic on November 5 and 6. The team makes their return home to the Comerica Center November 12 hosting the Birmingham Squadron at 7:30pm.
