In the summer of 2020, the Iowa football program found themselves in the national spotlight over allegations of racial disparities and racist comments by then Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Chris Doyle. On Thursday, Doyle was announced as a new member of the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff.

Doyle, who had been with the University of Iowa since 1999, would reach a separation agreement which included 15 months base salary.  Eight months after that agreement would be reached, new Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer would bring Doyle to the NFL.

Meyer said about the hiring:

“I’ve known Chris for close to 20 years.  Our relationship goes back to when I was at Utah and he was the number one strength coach.  Really, he was doing sports performance before sports performance became a high priority in college sports. I’ve known him, I’ve studied him, we’ve had a relationship. I’ve vetted him thoroughly along with our general manager and owner. I feel great about the hire, about his expertise at that position. So we vetted him thoroughly.”
