East High School Principal Chosen For Waterloo District Position
Waterloo School District officials are searching for a new principal to replace Marla Padget at East High School.
Padget is moving to a new administrative role in the district, Waterloo Schools Superintendent Dr. Jane Lindaman announced in a press release on Friday (April 13, 2018).
Pending the Board of Education's approval, Padget will replace Cora Turner as Executive Director of Student and At-Risk Services effective July 1. Turner will be retiring from the district in October after nearly two decades of service, Lindaman said.
"I look forward to serving all of the students and families in the Waterloo Schools," said Padget, who's been with the district 27 years.
Padget took over as principal at her alma mater in July, 2012. She graduated from East in 1980, then earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from UNI.
Prior to becoming the top administrator at East, Padget was principal at Central Middle School. Before that, she had been an assistant principal and athletic director at Central, and a teacher at East.
“Mrs. Padget has a wonderful history with Waterloo Schools and I am confident in her ability to serve our students and their families," Lindaman said. "While we had many solid applicants, it was crystal clear her skill set was a match for this position.”
According to Lindaman, the search for Padget's replacement at East will begin immediately.
