A Waterloo woman is being charged with causing an accident involving a Black Hawk County sheriff's vehicle.

The accident occurred at the intersection of W. 5th and Washington streets in Waterloo shortly after 9:30 AM Friday (Oct. 19, 2018).

Authorities said a sport utility vehicle, driven by Sonja Gray, 46, failed to stop at a red light. Gray's SUV collided with a marked sheriff's car, driven by Deputy Joe Stafford.

Waterloo police investigated the accident.

Stafford, 57, was enroute to another emergency when the two vehicles crashed. Sheriff's vehicle had its emergency lights and siren on, police said.

Gray and her passenger, Bianca Robinson, 27, were taken to a Waterloo hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Deputy Stafford was not hurt.

Police cited Gray with failing to stop at a red light.
