St. Mary’s Has Successful State Tournament Debut

St. Mary's of Remsen is making the most of its first trip the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball Tournament.

The Hawks (25-0) advanced to the Class 1A semifinals by defeating New London 59-52 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines Monday afternoon. St. Mary's led from start to finish after jumping to a 22-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

New London (21-4) pulled to within 29-26 at halftime and cut the margin to two points several times in the second half, but was never able get ahead.

Nicholas Ruden led St. Mary's in scoring with a game-high 29 points. Mason Porter tallied 19 for the Tigers.

The semifinal game for St. Mary's will be at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday (March 9).
