Defense Leads Grand View Christian Into Semifinals

Solid defense carried Grand View Christian to a 59-36 victory over West Hancock in the last Class 1A quarterfinal of the Iowa High School Boys State Tournament on Monday (March, 6, 2017).

The Thunder (25-1) recorded 12 steals and forced 18 West Hancock turnovers, of which Grand View Christian scored 20 points off of. The Eagles (19-7) were limited to just one point in the first quarter.

Grant DeMeulenaere scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Thunder in the win, while Mach Nyaw added 12. Arturo Montes also tallied 11, while recording a double-double with 12 rebounds.

Dylan Eckels had 11 points for West Hancock. Ben Eisenman chipped in 10.

Grand View Christian advances to the Class 1A semifinals at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
