2020 Iowa High School Football Rankings – Poll 1
Nearly a dozen teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are featured in the first high school football rankings of the season.
In all, 10 area squads are ranked. Seven others received votes, just missing a spot among the top 10 in the six-class poll that the Associated Press released Monday evening.
Defending eight-player state champion Don Bosco (1-0) and Grundy Center (1-0), which played for the Class-A title last year, both debuted at No. 1 in their respective classes. Don Bosco opened the the season with a convincing 78-6 victory over West Central of Maynard Friday night. The Spartans defeated Panora 20-14 in Panorama.
Grundy Center tops a Class A field that appears to be the most-competitive among area teams. Three other northeast Iowa squads are ranked among the top six in the survey: Edgewood-Colesburg (No. 4), South Winneshiek (No. 5) and Wapsie Valley (No. 6).
Gladbrook-Reinbeck joined the Dons in the eight-player survey. The Rebels are ranked 10th in the inaugural 2020 poll.
The other area rated teams are: Cedar Falls (No. 5 in Class 4A), West Delaware (No. 7 in 3A), Waukon (No. 6 in 2A) and Dike-New Hartford (No. 3 in 1A).
The following area teams received top 10 votes: Independence (Class 2A), New Hampton (2A), Sumner-Fredericksburg (1A), MFL-Mar-Mac (A), Waterloo Columbus Catholic (A), AGWSR (8-player) and Janesville (8-player).
