2017 Iowa High School Football Week 8 Rankings
Nearly a dozen high school football teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are ranked by the Associated Press heading into the final week of the 2017 regular season.
Unbeaten Don Bosco (8-0, 5-0) continues to lead the eight-player poll following a 66-21 thrashing of Central City on Friday. The defending state champion Dons currently own the state's longest winning streak at 16 games. They will host Tripoli (8-0, 5-0) for the District 3 championship this week The Panthers enter the game ranked at No. 4.
Hudson (8-0, 6-0) and Gladbrook-Reinbeck (7-1, 5-1) both jumped one spot in the Class-A rankings. The Pirates moved up to No. 2 after a 64-7 victory over Grand View Christian, while the Rebels rose to No. 7 with a surprisingly one-sided 43-0 win over previously unbeaten Belle Plaine at Independence. Wapsie Valley (8-0, 6-0) stayed at No. 4 with its District 4 championship-clinching shutout of Postville, while East Buchanan (7-1, 5-1) stayed at No. 10 following a 20-14 overtime win against Edgewood-Colesburg.
There was no movement for Denver in the Class-1A survey. The Cyclones (7-1, 6-0) claimed the District 2 title with a 40-0 win at BCLUW of Conrad.
In Class-2A, Waukon and La Porte City Union swapped positions for the second-straight week. Waukon (7-1, 5-1) leap-frogged the Knights into the No. 7 spot following a 62-22 win over Oelwein, while Union fell to No. 10 after a 22-12 victory against North Fayette Valley. Last week, the Knights replaced Waukon as the higher-ranked team just days after falling to the Indians.
Waverly-Shell Rock inched its way closer to the top of the Class-3A poll, following a 61-23 win over South Tama. The Go-Hawks (7-1, 5-1) moved up from No. 8 to No. 7 in this week's poll.
The other area team ranked in the latest survey is Cedar Falls. The Tigers (7-1, 4-0) stayed at No. 5 in Class-4A with a decisive 45-7 win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson. The victory clinched the District 5 championship for Cedar Falls and guaranteed a return trip to playoffs after missing post-season play in 2016.
