Charges Still Not Filed Against Naked I-380 Wrong Way Driver, Victims Frustrated
It is certainly not a story anyone will forget anytime soon considering the strange circumstances. On January 6, 2022, a man drove the wrong way on I-380, crashed, and ran away naked.
According to KCRG, last month a man dropped his kids off at an elementary school, took his clothes off in the bathroom, drove the wrong way on southbound I-380, and hit multiple vehicles and causing others to swerve. One semi swerved so much that it dumped a load of grain on the interstate. The crash caused a backup of traffic on the interstate and multiple people were hurt.
After crashing, the man fled the scene naked and was found at 42nd St. and Glass Rd. NE. Authorities took him to a local hospital for evaluation with charges pending. Those charges are still pending. According to KCRG, that's because the Cedar Rapids Police Department is still investigating the situation, and are "waiting for toxicology test results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory." Once the police receive the results, they can determine the next steps in the case.
KCRG was able to find some of the victims' names from a search warrant related to the crash. They reported that one victim is frustrated with the lack of charges after he suffered serious injuries.
The police will not release the name of the man who caused the crashes, as he has not been charged with a crime. We'll continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
