An eastern Iowa man has been arrested on robbery and kidnapping charges for an incident in Oelwein last month. Authorites allege he arranged to meet someone through a social media site, then robbed the person at gunpoint.

The incident happened on Feb. 23. Mason Mally, 18, of Cedar Rapids, is accused of arranging a sale on the social media site, Snapchat.

According to Oelwein police, Mally drove a short distance after the buyer entered his car. Mally then pulled a gun on the victim and demanded the person's money. Police said the victim tried to get out of the vehicle, but Mally trapped the victim inside by lowering the car's reclining seat.

Mally got away with $1,500 in cash, police said.

Following an investigation, a Fayette County warrant was issued for Mally's arrest. He was taken into custody by Linn County authorities on Friday, then was transferred to Fayette County.

Mally was charged with first-degree Robbery, second-degree kidnapping and going armed with intent. His bond at the Fayette County Jail was set at $50,000.
